2Samuel 15:1-6 "And it came to pass after this, that Absalom prepared himself chariots and horses, and fifty men to run before him. And Absalom rose up early, and stood beside the way of the gate: and it was so, that when any man that had a controversy came to the king for judgment, then Absalom called unto him, and said, Of what city are you? And he said, your servant is of one of the tribes of Israel. And Absalom said unto him, See, your matters are good and right; but there is no man appointed of the king to hear you. Absalom said moreover, Oh that I were made judge in the land, that every man who has any suit or cause might come unto me, and I would do him justice! And it was so, that when any man came near to him to bow down to him, he put forth his hand, and took him, and kissed him. And in this manner did Absalom to all Israel that came to the king for judgment: so Absalom stole the hearts of the men of Israel"
Can you tell the difference between a true servant from a politician? Because there are differences. Sometimes difficult to discern, but Jesus Christ gives a key to discern in Mathew 7:15-18, “by their fruits”. It is also interesting that for the fruits to appear takes time, so we also need patience. But the time will come if we have ears to hear and eyes to see when the fruits will tell you if someone is a true servant or just a politician disguised as servant.
A major difference is in what a person bases his or her decisions and actions. A true servant will always act or decide based on principles. That is one reason they are trustworthy. Their actions and decisions will always be the same under the same circumstances. For example a true servant will not use a set of rules for his family or friends and another for the rest of people. It is a sin.
Leviticus 19:15 "You shall do no unrighteousness in judgment: you shall not be partial to the poor, nor honor the person of the mighty: but in righteousness shall you judge your neighbor."
James 2:9 "But if ye have respect to persons, ye commit sin, and are convinced of the law as transgressors."
God judge us all by the same law, principles and values. 1Pe 1:17 "And if ye call on the Father, who without respect of persons judgeth according to every man's work, pass the time of your sojourning here in fear:" Romans 2:11 is also a Scripture to consider.
A true servant leader will not be afraid to take difficult or unpopular decisions. If someone is basing his or her decisions on principles, when those principles and values are disregarded he or she will have to speak up and correct. Titus 2:15 "These things speak, and exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no man despise thee."
Jesus Christ the perfect servant spoke up and corrected when He saw injustice, when He saw God’s law disregarded. He confronted the Pharisees. He strongly rebuked the merchants in the temple. (Mathew 23:13-19; John 2:14-16).
A politician doesn’t like to do something unpopular because it means losing votes and support. He is in a campaign to win a following and he will make every effort to avoid confrontation. Sometimes he will have to play dumb, deaf and blind.
A politician alters his speech according to the audience. That is the reason many times he has to say half truths or hide things, and later on has many troubles trying to explain himself. Mark Twain said "If you tell the truth you don't have to remember anything." A true servant will make every effort to always speak truthfully. We can see a marked contrast between Jesus Christ and the Pharisees in the following verses. Mathew 22:16 and Mathew 23:28.
Finally a true servant will always seek the welfare of the ones he is serving. A true servant will love deeply the ones he is serving. He will be ready to make sacrifices for them. It means:
* He will not feel he is above the ones he is serving.
Deuteronomy 17:18-20 "And it shall be, when he sitteth upon the throne of his kingdom, that he shall write him a copy of this law in a book out of that which is before the priests the Levites: And it shall be with him, and he shall read therein all the days of his life: that he may learn to fear the LORD his God, to keep all the words of this law and these statutes, to do them: That his heart be not lifted up above his brethren, and that he turn not aside from the commandment, to the right hand, or to the left: to the end that he may prolong his days in his kingdom, he, and his children, in the midst of Israel."
* He will correct with love, patience, mercy and compassion the ones he is serving.
Colossians 3:12-13 and Galatians 6:1
Who are we imitating? Jesus Christ, the perfect servant? Or Absalom, the politician disguised as servant?

Pensamientos de un Padre
“También debes saber esto: que en los postreros días vendrán tiempos peligrosos. Porque habrá hombres amadores de sí mismos, avaros, vanagloriosos, soberbios, blasfemos, desobedientes a los padres, ingratos, impíos, sin afecto natural, implacables, calumniadores, intemperantes, crueles, aborrecedores de lo bueno, traidores, impetuosos, infatuados, amadores de los deleites más que de Dios,…” nos dice la Biblia en 2Timoteo 3:1-4.
Leyendo esta descripción del carácter de las personas de este periodo descrito en la Biblia como los tiempos del fin me lleva a la reflexión de que esto no sucederá de la nada o por pura casualidad. Esto es consecuencia de padres que no están cumpliendo con la responsabilidad que nos da Dios al bendecirnos con hijos. Esto es consecuencia de no cumplir con el deber que tenemos de transmitir a nuestros hijos los verdaderos valores que Dios espera que sean pasados de generación a generación y que garantizaran que ellos se conviertan en personas respetuosas de las leyes, de su prójimo y principalmente de Dios.
“He aquí, herencia de Jehová son los hijos; Cosa de estima el fruto del vientre.” Se afirma en Salmos 127:3. Los hijos son una bendición de Dios, y con esta bendición viene una responsabilidad, la responsabilidad de educarlos desde el momento que los recibimos. Algunas cosas que tenemos que tener en cuenta sobre este aspecto son:
1. Mientras más temprano empezamos a educarlos mejor. Proverbios 22:6 leemos: “Instruye al niño en su camino, Y aun cuando fuere viejo no se apartará de él."
Los padres son todo para sus hijos durante los primeros años de su vida. Ellos tienen a sus padres en el lugar más alto. Su padre todo lo puede. Su padre todo lo sabe. Eso cambia cuando se llega a la etapa de la adolescencia cuando ellos creen que todo lo saben y sus padres saben poco. Mark Twain dijo: “Cuando era un muchacho de 14 años, mi padre era tan ignorante que apenas podía soportar que él estuviera alrededor de mi. Pero cuando tenía 21 años, me encontraba sorprendido por cuanto él había aprendido en 7 años”
2. Enseñe con el ejemplo. "Los hijos nunca han sido muy buenos para oír a sus padres, pero nunca han podido dejar de imitarlos" --James Baldwin.
Para poder educar con el ejemplo hay dos cosas que son indispensables:
a. Tenemos nosotros que amar y estar convencidos de los valores que queremos transmitir.
b. Tenemos que pasar tiempo con nuestros hijos.
Dios lo resume en Deuteronomio 6:6-7 “Y estas palabras que yo te mando hoy, estarán sobre tu corazón; y las repetirás a tus hijos, y hablarás de ellas estando en tu casa, y andando por el camino, y al acostarte, y cuando te levantes.”
3. No rehúse disciplinar. En realidad la disciplina es dolorosa tanto para el hijo como para el padre. Por eso muchas veces los padres rehusamos ejercer disciplina. Pero la Biblia nos instruye sobre la necesidad de una apropiada disciplina a nuestros hijos, es más dice que es una señal de nuestro amor hacia ellos; “No rehúses corregir al muchacho; Porque si lo castigas con vara, no morirá. Lo castigarás con vara, Y librarás su alma del Seol.” (Proverbios 23:14)
Algo que hay que tener muy en cuenta que la Biblia no aprueba el abuso. Es muy diferente disciplinar con amor a abusar de nuestros hijos. “Castiga a tu hijo en tanto que hay esperanza; Mas no se apresure tu alma para destruirlo.” (Proverbios 19:18)
La disciplina que uno hace por amor nunca dejará daños físicos o emocionales en nuestros hijos. La intención nunca es dañar sino proteger, ayudar, educar. “Porque Jehová al que ama castiga, Como el padre al hijo a quien quiere.” (Proverbios 3:12)
Este domingo estaremos celebrando el día del padre. Los hijos se juntan para homenajear a sus padres, nosotros padres meditemos en ese día sobre qué estamos haciendo con esa preciosa herencia que nos ha dado Dios, nuestros hijos y si somos dignos recipientes del reconocimiento que se nos dará ese día.
Hijo, no necesito un regalo, los regalos más valiosos ya los he recibido de Dios, y tu eres uno de ellos.

Unity
“Like a mighty army moves the church of God; Brothers, we are treading, where the saints have trod; We are not divided, all one body we; One in hope and doctrine; one in charity” says part of the lyrics of a song my son was impressed with when singing it for the first time a few weeks ago in a Church service in Cincinnati, Ohio.
The theme of unity is a very important one in the Bible. Jesus Christ teaches us about the importance of being united by giving us the following warning: “Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and a house divided against a house falleth. (Luke 11; 17) God through Paul gives us a similar warning in Galatians 5:15 “But if ye bite and devour one another, take heed that ye be not consumed one of another.”
God is a God of unity. He wishes His people will always remained united. That is one of His most fervent desires. It was expressed by Jesus Christ a few hours before being crucified. “Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word; That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me. And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one: I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me” (John 17:20-23)
God knows that the only way we have to be a strong people walking steadily toward salvation is by staying glued to Him and to each other. Three scriptures to consider are:
John 15:4-5 “Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me. I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.”
And the other two dealing with unity amongst us we find them in Psalms 133:1, 3 “Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity! … For there the LORD commanded the blessing, even life for evermore”
And in Hebrews 10:24-25 “let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching"
The world also understands the benefit of unity and keeps seeking it. The world puts its hope for unity in temporary things such as peace treaties which keep changing when circumstances or people change.
The unity of God’s people is everlasting because it is based on eternal realities. “Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; One Lord, one faith, one baptism, One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.” (Ephesians4:3-6)

Trust and Respect
Is what most of us wish other people would have for us. The Scottish poet and writer of the end of the IXX century George McDonald said: “to be trusted is a greater compliment than being loved”. In these days it is a lot harder to trust in something or someone, we see scams and lies all around us. We need lawyers to close agreements and contracts; it is not enough with our former shake of hands and giving of our word to close a deal. The same way we find harder to trust someone, other people may find difficult to trust us as well.
Some people in a leadership position demand respect and trust, but trust and respect is something we earn over a period of time. To have a name considered worthy of trust and respect is a task that can take us a long time to achieve and it is certainly a very valuable asset as the word of God tells us in Proverbs 22:1 “A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold”
It is also true that a good name (which takes a long time to win) can be lost in an instant. The German Philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche said: “I’m not upset that you lied to me, I’m upset that from now on I can’t believe you”. It often requires just a lie, “a little folly”, to lose the trust and respect that took us so much to build. God warns us about it in Ecclesiastes 10:1 “Dead flies cause the ointment of the apothecary to send forth a stinking savour: so doth a little folly him that is in reputation for wisdom and honour.”
How can we make a name for ourselves worthy of trust and respect?
1. Be a man of your word. Keep your promises. There is nothing more discouraging and trust breaking than to see someone not keeping his or her word. God expects us to be very careful with what we offer, and that when we give our word we keep it. “Better is it that thou shouldest not vow, than that thou shouldest vow and not pay.” (Ecclesiastes 5:5). In Psalms 15:1, 4 we read “A Psalm of David. LORD, who shall abide in thy tabernacle? who shall dwell in thy holy hill? …He that sweareth to his own hurt, and changeth not.
2. Watch your actions. Our actions speak louder than our words. If we are striving to live a life subject to God’s moral principles, a life of integrity and by “every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God”, as a result people will respect and trust us. “He that walketh uprightly, and worketh righteousness, and speaketh the truth in his heart. He that backbiteth not with his tongue, nor doeth evil to his neighbour, nor taketh up a reproach against his neighbour…He that putteth not out his money to usury, nor taketh reward against the innocent. He that doeth these things shall never be moved. (Psalms 15:2-3, 5)We also have the admonition given by God through Peter “Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless. (2Pedro 3:14)
3. To be respected you have to respect. “Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.” (Mathew 7:12). It is going to be very difficult for someone to respect you if you do not show the same respect. Respect is shown in the way how we treat others, how we serve them, how we talk to them. “Rebuke not an elder, but intreat him as a father; and the younger men as brethren; The elder women as mothers; the younger as sisters, with all purity.” (1Timothy 5:1-2). We need to respect and be kind even to the people who we do not agree with; Jesus Christ set the mark very high for us, his followers, and a mark we need to be striving to achieve. “But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;… For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same? And if ye salute your brethren only (show respect), what do ye more than others? do not even the publicans so? Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect. (Mathew 5:44, 46-48)

¿Siervo Líder o Pólitico?
2Samuel 14:25 "Y no había en todo Israel ninguno tan alabado por su hermosura como Absalón; desde la planta de su pie hasta su coronilla no había en él defecto."
2Samuel 15:1-6 "Aconteció después de esto, que Absalón se hizo de carros y caballos, y cincuenta hombres que corriesen delante de él. Y se levantaba Absalón de mañana, y se ponía a un lado del camino junto a la puerta; y a cualquiera que tenía pleito y venía al rey a juicio, Absalón le llamaba y le decía: ¿De qué ciudad eres? Y él respondía: Tu siervo es de una de las tribus de Israel. Entonces Absalón le decía: Mira, tus palabras son buenas y justas; mas no tienes quien te oiga de parte del rey. Y decía Absalón: ¡Quién me pusiera por juez en la tierra, para que viniesen a mí todos los que tienen pleito o negocio, que yo les haría justicia! Y acontecía que cuando alguno se acercaba para inclinarse a él, él extendía la mano y lo tomaba, y lo besaba. De esta manera hacía con todos los israelitas que venían al rey a juicio; y así robaba Absalón el corazón de los de Israel."
¿Puede usted reconocer a un verdadero siervo líder? ¿Puede usted detectar a un político disfrazado de siervo líder? Hay una gran diferencia entre uno y otro que para muchas personas es muy difícil de detectar.
La diferencia se da en sobre que fundamentos basan sus decisiones los unos y los otros. Los siervos lideres basan sus decisiones y acciones en principios. Esa es la principal razón por la que podemos confiar en ellos. Sus acciones y decisiones siempre serán las mismas bajo las mismas circunstancias. Veamos algunos puntos específicos.
1. Un verdadero siervo líder no puede conducirse en su servicio con valores relativos. No decide según las personas o circunstancias, sino según valores y principios.
Un verdadero siervo líder no verá afectado su servicio debido a preferencias. No usa unos principios para sus amigos, familiares u allegados y otros para los que no lo son. No hace acepción de personas. Eso es algo claramente condenado en la Biblia.
a. "No harás injusticia en el juicio, ni favoreciendo al pobre ni complaciendo al grande; con justicia juzgarás a tu prójimo". (Levíticos 19:15)
b. "pero si hacéis acepción de personas, cometéis pecado, y quedáis convictos por la ley como transgresores". (Santiago 2:9)
Dios nos juzga a todos por la misma ley, los mismos principios, los mismos valores. "Porque no hay acepción de personas para con Dios." (Romanos 2:11). Y en 1Pedro 1:17 Dios a través del apóstol Pedo nos dice: "Y si invocáis por Padre a aquel que sin acepción de personas juzga según la obra de cada uno, conducíos en temor todo el tiempo de vuestra peregrinación;"
2. Un verdadero siervo líder no temerá tomar decisiones difíciles o impopulares.
Esto es como consecuencia del primer punto, si un verdadero siervo basa sus decisiones en principios, eso implicará que cuando estos principios o valores se vean violentados tendrá que hablar y corregir. A un político no le gusta hacer algo impopular porque eso le significará pérdida de popularidad. Un político altera su discurso según la audiencia, está en una campaña por ganar adeptos y hará todo lo necesario para evitar una confrontación. Eso implicará que muchas veces se tendrá que hacerse el ciego, sordo y mudo. Jesucristo el siervo perfecto se indignó cuando vio la injusticia, cuando vio la ley, los mandamientos y principios de Dios violentados y usados de manera incorrecta. Él confrontó a los Fariseos "Mas ¡ay de vosotros, escribas y fariseos, hipócritas! porque cerráis el reino de los cielos delante de los hombres;..."(Mateo 23:13:39).
Expulso a los comerciantes del Templo "y halló en el templo a los que vendían bueyes, ovejas y palomas, y a los cambistas allí sentados. Y haciendo un azote de cuerdas, echó fuera del templo a todos, y las ovejas y los bueyes; y esparció las monedas de los cambistas, y volcó las mesas; y dijo a los que vendían palomas: Quitad de aquí esto, y no hagáis de la casa de mi Padre casa de mercado. (Juan 2:14-16). Medidas impopulares pero empujadas por un verdadero sentido de indignación frente a la injusticia y al quebrantamiento de principios inspirados por Dios mismo.
3. Un verdadero líder siervo siempre nos hablará con la verdad. En nuestra sociedad vemos como los hechos se disfrazan, no se habla directamente, se contrata relacionistas públicos para distorsionar a favor del cliente o en el mejor de los casos suavizar algún hecho reprobable. Hay asesores de imagen que estudian que es lo que le gusta a la gente para darles precisamente eso, lo que quieren ver y oír.
Un verdadero líder tiene que ser auténtico. Tiene que vivir y hablar verdad. Jesucristo vivía y respiraba verdad, como se veía así era. Cuando hablaba solo salía de su boca verdad. "Pero ahora procuráis matarme a mí, hombre que os he hablado la verdad, la cual he oído de Dios; no hizo esto Abraham". (Juan 8:40)
Mat 22:16 "Y le enviaron los discípulos de ellos con los herodianos, diciendo: Maestro, sabemos que eres amante de la verdad, y que enseñas con verdad el camino de Dios, y que no te cuidas de nadie, porque no miras la apariencia de los hombres." Un marcado contraste con los Fariseos "Así también vosotros por fuera, a la verdad, os mostráis justos a los hombres, pero por dentro estáis llenos de hipocresía e iniquidad." (Mateo 23:28)
Efesios 4:25 "Por lo cual, desechando la mentira, hablad verdad cada uno con su prójimo; porque somos miembros los unos de los otros."
4. Un verdadero siervo líder siempre buscará el bienestar de los que está sirviendo.
Un verdadero siervo ama a los que sirve de una manera profunda. Está dispuesto a hacer sacrificios por los que está sirviendo. Pone los intereses de los servidos por encima de los suyos. Eso implica:
a. Nunca se sentirá por encima de los que sirve.
Deuteronomio 17:18-20 "Y cuando se siente sobre el trono de su reino, entonces escribirá para sí en un libro una copia de esta ley, del original que está al cuidado de los sacerdotes levitas; y lo tendrá consigo, y leerá en él todos los días de su vida, para que aprenda a temer a Jehová su Dios, para guardar todas las palabras de esta ley y estos estatutos, para ponerlos por obra; para que no se eleve su corazón sobre sus hermanos, ni se aparte del mandamiento a diestra ni a siniestra"
b. No temerá ni rehusará corregir con paciencia y amor a los que está sirviendo.
Jesucristo cuando estuvo instruyendo a sus apóstoles tuvo que corregirlos en varias ocasiones. Con paciencia corrigió a Pedro cuando fue necesario, a todos los apóstoles cuando estaban compitiendo por quién de ellos era el más importante. (Marcos 9:33-37; Mateo 16:22-23)
c. Un verdadero siervo no rehusará recibir corrección cuando sea necesario.
"El que tiene en poco la disciplina menosprecia su alma; Mas el que escucha la corrección tiene entendimiento". (Proverbios 15:22)
Jesucristo el siervo perfecto nos muestra como ser siervos líderes. El nos ama profundamente, nos da corrección cuando la necesitamos porque tiene nuestro bienestar como prioridad (Hebreos 12:5-7 "y habéis ya olvidado la exhortación que como a hijos se os dirige, diciendo: Hijo mío, no menosprecies la disciplina del Señor, Ni desmayes cuando eres reprendido por él; Porque el Señor al que ama, disciplina, Y azota a todo el que recibe por hijo. Si soportáis la disciplina, Dios os trata como a hijos; porque ¿qué hijo es aquel a quien el padre no disciplina?").
Realizó el más grande sacrificio para que podamos tener acceso a la salvación. Filipenses 2:5-7 "Haya, pues, en vosotros este sentir que hubo también en Cristo Jesús, el cual, siendo en forma de Dios, no estimó el ser igual a Dios como cosa a que aferrarse, sino que se despojó a sí mismo, tomando forma de siervo, hecho semejante a los hombres; y estando en la condición de hombre, se humilló a sí mismo, haciéndose obediente hasta la muerte, y muerte de cruz."
¿A quién estamos imitando? ¿A Jesucristo, el siervo líder perfecto o Absalón, el político disfrazado de líder?
Solo pensando en voz alta...
2Samuel 15:1-6 "Aconteció después de esto, que Absalón se hizo de carros y caballos, y cincuenta hombres que corriesen delante de él. Y se levantaba Absalón de mañana, y se ponía a un lado del camino junto a la puerta; y a cualquiera que tenía pleito y venía al rey a juicio, Absalón le llamaba y le decía: ¿De qué ciudad eres? Y él respondía: Tu siervo es de una de las tribus de Israel. Entonces Absalón le decía: Mira, tus palabras son buenas y justas; mas no tienes quien te oiga de parte del rey. Y decía Absalón: ¡Quién me pusiera por juez en la tierra, para que viniesen a mí todos los que tienen pleito o negocio, que yo les haría justicia! Y acontecía que cuando alguno se acercaba para inclinarse a él, él extendía la mano y lo tomaba, y lo besaba. De esta manera hacía con todos los israelitas que venían al rey a juicio; y así robaba Absalón el corazón de los de Israel."
¿Puede usted reconocer a un verdadero siervo líder? ¿Puede usted detectar a un político disfrazado de siervo líder? Hay una gran diferencia entre uno y otro que para muchas personas es muy difícil de detectar.
La diferencia se da en sobre que fundamentos basan sus decisiones los unos y los otros. Los siervos lideres basan sus decisiones y acciones en principios. Esa es la principal razón por la que podemos confiar en ellos. Sus acciones y decisiones siempre serán las mismas bajo las mismas circunstancias. Veamos algunos puntos específicos.
1. Un verdadero siervo líder no puede conducirse en su servicio con valores relativos. No decide según las personas o circunstancias, sino según valores y principios.
Un verdadero siervo líder no verá afectado su servicio debido a preferencias. No usa unos principios para sus amigos, familiares u allegados y otros para los que no lo son. No hace acepción de personas. Eso es algo claramente condenado en la Biblia.

Unidad
"Unidos seremos grandes, seremos fuertes. Somos un pueblo bandera de libertad, que viene y que va, que viene y que va, que viene y que va"...dice parte de la letra de la canción oficial en Español del mundial de fútbol que se empezará a jugar en los próximos días en Sudáfrica.
El tema de la unidad es un tema importante y recurrente en la Biblia. Jesucristo nos enseñó acerca de lo importante que es la unidad al hacernos la siguiente advertencia: "Todo reino dividido contra sí mismo, es asolado; y una casa dividida contra sí misma, cae." (Lucas 11:17). Dios a través de Pablo nos hace una advertencia muy parecida en Gálatas 5:15 "Pero si os mordéis y os coméis unos a otros, mirad que también no os consumáis unos a otros."
Dios es un Dios de unidad. Él desea que su pueblo permanezca unido. Ese es uno de sus más fervientes deseos. Ese deseo fue expresado por Jesucristo en sus últimos momentos antes de ser sacrificado. "Mas no ruego solamente por éstos, sino también por los que han de creer en mí por la palabra de ellos, para que todos sean uno; como tú, oh Padre, en mí, y yo en ti, que también ellos sean uno en nosotros; para que el mundo crea que tú me enviaste. La gloria que me diste, yo les he dado, para que sean uno, así como nosotros somos uno. Yo en ellos, y tú en mí, para que sean perfectos en unidad, para que el mundo conozca que tú me enviaste, y que los has amado a ellos como también a mí me has amado. (Juan 17:20-23)
Dios sabe que la única manera en que seremos un pueblo fuerte y que camine seguro hacia la salvación es a través de mantenernos unidos a Él y entre nosotros. Dos escrituras que podemos considerar son:
Juan 15:4-5 "Permaneced en mí, y yo en vosotros. Como el pámpano no puede llevar fruto por sí mismo, si no permanece en la vid, así tampoco vosotros, si no permanecéis en mí. Yo soy la vid, vosotros los pámpanos; el que permanece en mí, y yo en él, éste lleva mucho fruto; porque separados de mí nada podéis hacer."
La otra en relación a la unidad entre nosotros la encontramos en Salmos 133:1,3 "¡Mirad cuán bueno y cuán delicioso es habitar los hermanos juntos en armonía!... Porque allí envía Jehová bendición, y vida eterna."
En unos días el mundo se unirá en torno a un torneo deportivo, unas semanas más tarde esa unidad se terminará con la finalización de la competencia. La unidad del mundo es temporal porque está basada en cosas temporales tales como eventos deportivos, artísticos, acuerdos, tratados, etc.
La unidad del pueblo de Dios no debe terminar nunca porque está basada en realidades eternas. "solícitos en guardar la unidad del Espíritu en el vínculo de la paz; un cuerpo, y un Espíritu, como fuisteis también llamados en una misma esperanza de vuestra vocación; un Señor, una fe, un bautismo, un Dios y Padre de todos, el cual es sobre todos, y por todos, y en todos." (Efesios 4:3-6)

Why Do You Obey?
Have you noticed how people are valued for their possessions? There is the thought that the more you have, the more material things you accumulate the better you are. The value of someone is determined for how much he or she possesses.
This perspective affects the thinking of Christians and leads us to think that if we do not have plenty of material things we are not being blessed. Jesus Christ tells us different in Luke 12:15 "for a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth."
Our value as human beings is not determined by the model or size of the car we drive, or what type of cell phone we use, or how expensive is the clothe we wear. Our value is determined, in God's eyes, by how we treat our neighbor, how is our relationship to Him, how much are we growing in character (values and integrity). Every human being is precious to God in that we were created to His image and likeness and have the incredible potential to be part of His very own family.
Let's ask ourselves the following question: Why do we obey God? For what we can get from Him physically speaking? Is that our main motivation? Satan thinks that way. Speaking of Job Satan said: "Doth Job fear God for nought? 10 Hast not thou made an hedge about him, and about his house, and about all that he hath on every side? thou hast blessed the work of his hands, and his substance is increased in the land. 11 But put forth thine hand now, and touch all that he hath, and he will curse thee to thy face." (Job 1:9-11)
Satan is a selfish being, he cannot understand that something can be done out of love. He does not understand the meaning of altruism. He thinks everybody has a price. He tried to "buy" Jesus Christ also. In Mathew 4:8-10 we read the account: "Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them; 9 And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me. 10 Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve."
God is interested in our character. He is committed to help us develop His character in us. He is helping us grow toward perfection. It means that sometimes he will have to deny us some things that might hinder that process. We as parents know that we cannot give our children everything they ask for, we would spoil them. God told Jesus Christ NO (Mathew 26:39-42). God told Paul NO (2Corinthians 12:7-9). But these "no" answers were given to achieve a greater good.
Finally, are we as bad as we think? No, according to God's perspective. If we adopt His perspective instead of the one the world offers us we should be deeply grateful for what we have. "And having food and raiment let us be therewith content." (1Timothy 6:8). Count your blessings: Life, family, home, health, clothes, friends, brethren (congregation), the Holy Spirit and being part of the body of Christ (the Church) among others. Write up a list of all you have and you will see that it is much more than "food and raiment".
